A River of Knowledge / Concept for the Pavilion

Knowledge keeps flowing across time like a river that is never still. A river cuts through rock not because of its power but because of its persistence. Like a river, the theme pavilion will be a place that renews our spirit, connects us with our past and links us directly with the flow and rhythm of contemporary India and the world.

Knowledge has given us the courage and means to become free from the shackles of ignorance, bondage and suffering. Knowledge and imagination are two facets of literature - which has played a pivotal role in inspiring the mind and the thought; it has been the guiding spirit and the strength on our journey for independence. The act of achieving independence was only a landmark in this journey of self reliance and freedom.

1 / Developing the visual language for the brand

I used various repeating forms of an ‘open book’ to depict the endless flow of knowledge, thoughts/ideas, imagination and words as abstract patterns.

Hand-drawn illustrations/patterns symbolising various kinds of flow like that of thought, dissemination of data, resistance, digital revolution and similar ideas were created and scanned. These patterns were embedded in the book forms to create richer backgrounds, to create abstract riverscapes that one could look at and ponder about.
